Accessing the solar website:

Wilderland has two websites, one always-on, higher resolution website that is heavier to run, and one experimental, situated site, that is solar powered, and in the Nephin Park

The solar site might not always be on or available, it also has other quirks, and will be slower. Adjust your expectactions for this Permacomputing + Small Web alternative.

We Built This City on Rock & Coal

A climate change, hopepunk comedy show, created by scientists, comedians and… you!

Wilderland is collaborating with We Built This City on Rock & Coal to bring their unique comedy and citizen science project to Mayo.

We Built This City on Rock & Coal brings scientists and theatre makers to rural locations in coastal Ireland for an interactive event driven by research, comedy, music and what matters most to the community. Each show includes not just a live performance, but a citizen science project beforehand and a follow-up sustainability workshop, creating an experience that is fun, impactful, and good for the planet. They believe that every individual and their community can be part of a solution to climate change, but provoking real behaviour change requires a more adaptive artistic approach.

Wilderland is collaborating with We Built This City on Rock & Coal to bring their unique blend of improvised comedy theatre and citizen science to Mayo in 2024 for shows in Bangor Erris and Ballycroy and a sustainability workshop.

We Built This City on Rock & Coal is funded by the Creative Climate Action Fund, a Creative Ireland initiative. With additional support by iCRAG, the SFI Research Centres in UCD and University of Galway.

The 'fun' in fundamental change

#### Show We Built This City on Rock & Coal's show format is rooted in forum theatre and is unscripted, to explicitly acknowledge the challenges faced by each audience, make space for emotional responses, and inspire hope for action to make a difference at the individual, community, and global levels. A climate expert helps to open the show, chatting informally about a climate issue solicited from the audience, followed by improvised scenes and songs from performers that will explore the science and the impact of this issue in a lighthearted and hopeful way that empowers the audience to make change. Each event is **interactive** and **site specific**, using improvisation experts alongside academic researchers to build the show the local audience needs. #### STEM experts The show hosts STEM experts and local musicians and holds space for audience members to speak up and/or be interviewed. These source materials are used by international improvisation experts to inspire scenes, songs and sketches that are unique to each show and community. The show is co-created, original, funny and informative. We aim to prompt **discussion** and **change** around environmental topics while finding local positive steps towards solving climate change in the area. #### Improvisation We Built This City on Rock & Coal's have chosen improvisation as it is a way of co-creating and making immediate work that is responsive to the needs of any audience, opening discussion and prompting behaviour change. The issues and personality of each location require a different approach, both to climate change and to comedy, and addressing the imagination battle of adapting to climate change will be helped by an experience where the audience witnesses imagination live, as it unfolds. It’s important that solutions feel like fun and not work; improvisation is the perfect way to create engagement in this immediate and localised way.
